Comeback Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt
A resurgent the Russian player secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a former number one, has endured a difficult period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the past month - peaking in a hard-fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.
This marks the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from spring of the previous year.
The win also indicates he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct events.
"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Medvedev.
"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I got when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six championship matches, including in Halle previously this season.
His retrieving approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his ability to perform at the highest level was finished.
Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an improved service.
He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, securing four of the concluding five points to gain the advantage.
The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour victory, seized the initiative to push for a final set.
The opponent rescued four early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to close out the victory.
Suitably, he earned victory with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
