Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
