Slot Maintains He Is Secure and Has The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be raised about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest streak after being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received plenty of backing from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal discussions I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Squad Response
Slot highlighted known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I've reached the stage currently where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool since I was young.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a spell like this with outcomes this poor.”
He finished, “But we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to the top, show everyone once more what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the world.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
