The Latest Casual Playlist Ignites Heated Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but includes several key adjustments:
- Every squad includes just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it's a laid-back version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players seeking alternative methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games has shown one thing, it's that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the mistakes of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while someone else details everything they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, even against bots, but that got canned when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Be Made?
Should Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with Battlefield 6, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
