World Series Final Game Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extra-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a combined 51 million spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous finale between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final game began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto allowed one run in six innings – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series recorded 15.71M viewers on the Fox network, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on Univision, the total US viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The full playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded over 8 million viewers, an eight percent rise over the previous year and Fox’s strongest playoff ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball reported that the Fall Classic was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various tongues.
